Essentialism – the notion that determinate arcs of development or lives arise predictably from the strict binaries and child’s tales of who people are – Man, or Woman; Straight or Gay, Chosen or Abomination – is a core element of most Fascist movements over the Century or so it has lasted as a cul de sac.

A long time Port Townsend resident lurked in the showers at the YMCA in town and began demanding loudly to be told about the genitals of a child care worker who was watching her charges, late in July 2022. The child care worker’s co-workers told the woman she was no longer welcome to be at the pool because of her harassment and the upset she caused the children and the staff at the facility, which is contracted with the City for about $130,000 a year. PT Police were called but arrived after the unwanted party had self removed for the moment.

The following day, the Long Time Resident re-appeared with a group of supporters and began to loudly interfere with the entrance arcade of the facility, a compound of a former school and associated structures including the YMCA pool and a local radio station.

That evening or the day after, the Long Term Resident recorded her version of her Libel and Assault on her target, for the cameras during a City Council Meeting. This version of events became the news hook in a right-wing media frenzy cycle. That cycle ended up seeing the Child Care Worker doxxed on the infamous revenge site Kiwifarms.

As a result of the attention this garnered, a Press Con was held at the bricked area adjacent to a City Park in downtown Port Townsend by a group of women who surrounded and supported the initiator of the Libel. A scuffle or a few of them broke out during this Press Con and a couple of times the police (state and local) came in to control the scene and make at least one temporary custodial arrest if not a full prosecution at that Mid-August event. Noted right winger media personality Robert Zerfing arrived and streamed from the scene.

A couple of weeks later Robert Zerfing and his co-organizer Erik Rohde arrived in Port Townsend with a full County, State Police, US Coast Guard, and Port Townsend Police escort and spent an hour in his Protest Pen with the only Camera Pole allowed in his privatized space. Police Reports ensued.
